Like a lot of clubs, at the end of each season Chanhassen tried to collect evaluations on each player. These evaluations – made up of a few simple scoring criteria – were created in a document and sent to all coaches via email.

The hope was to have an evaluation on each returning player that could be used when evaluating them the following season for level of play and team formation decisions. However, only about 40% of the evaluations were returned. This left 60% of the players without an evaluation on file, which caused issues when trying to form rosters the following season. “how do you weigh a kid with a coach’s evaluation versus one without?” said Chris Potenza, a member of the board of directors for Chanhassen Basketball.
