Skyland Kings Hockey Cut Administrative Effort by 50% During Tryouts

Stockholm, New Jersey

20+ Teams

350+ Players

The Challenge

Player evaluations were a time-consuming process for Skylands Ice World – home of the Skyland Kings travel hockey program – as they manually recorded scores for each player across various programs. “We used to do pen and paper forms,” said Patrick Choules, Director of Hockey Programming at Skylands Ice World. “If we did 20 evaluations, we got 20 sheets … then we had to try to make sense of all of them.”

The Solution

To improve the efficiency of the player evaluation process, Skylands Ice World began using TeamGenius. The organization was able to enter all player data and scores into the platform to eliminate the need for paper forms and manual calculations.

“It probably cut my time in half. It allowed us to focus on the evaluations instead of data entry and calculations”

The Result

By using TeamGenius, Skylands Ice World was able to greatly reduce the amount of time it took to score and rank each player by accessing real-time data. “It probably cut my time in half,” Choules said. “It allowed us to focus on the evaluations instead of data entry and calculations”

Before using TeamGenius, Choules said the league administrators would spend about two hours discussing player scores and rankings after evaluations to determine rosters. By being able to access player scores and overall rankings instantly, Choules said the discussion and team formation was reduced to under an hour. “It allowed us to tell parents earlier,” said Choules. “Once I finalized the team, I sent out messages to each team right through the software. It was definitely worth the investment. It’s a great program.”
